what about o/c the extreme. what do u think i could get out of a 2.9GHz due core extreme.

don't get me wrong i am really looking in to the 6600/6800.
even the quad core.

there will still be a ceiling on the extreme. it will likely be close to the ceiling of the 6600. but it will cost a lot more. i think the extreme is more for people who want fast with no overclock. the 6600 will overclock well past the stock speed of the extreme.
do you have a mobo picked out?
i have read that with the 6600 and above the 680i is a rock-solid overclocker.

I appreciate all the great info.
That 6600 is looking pretty solid. Might be the choice !!!

What about MoBo's ?
I really liked that EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i

What do you (every one) think?

Get an E6600 and if you want RAID and like Crossfire then get a P5B-Deluxe.

An E6600 is great value, much better than an X6800. They will both overclock around the same as well.

Thats a pretty good mobo but you can also save some cash there by getting the Asus P5b or the Gigabyte ds3.

I think I am pretty much set on the E6600 for processor.
I also think I am going to stick to the EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR

There are WAY to many graphic cards to pick from
I checked out EVGA stuff, and a couple others.
I am lookin around 400-500 for the GPU

Any suggestions?
I was first lookg at

ASUS EN8800GTS/HTDP/640M GeForce 8800GTS GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card

PNY VCG88GTSXPB GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card

^ See first page for links

I might fork the cash out and get a
EVGA 8800GTX (a little over 600)

i had another question

Nividia calls it SLI?
ATI calls it Crossfire

RIGHT?

Not that i am interested in running due cards (2 expensive)

Depending on how much you are going to be doing audio work... and the level that you want to do it at, I would suggest getting a sound card/interface that is made specifically for that (as opposed to getting Creative card). There are so many options though, and I have no idea what you want to get out of your audio so I'll just point you in the direction of a site that have a lot of different cards (some are PCI, some are external connected through either USB or Firewire).

http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/

That will at least give you an idea of where to start... though you might be able to get these somewhere else (I find musiciansfriend.com to be pretty good too).

Drop the 680 for a P5B Deluxe and use the money to upgrade to an 8800GTX!!!!!

This isn't a brain buster!!

The 8800GTX is FAR more worth it than a stupid 680i these days.

The " EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR" isnt that costly that it will effect me not getting the 8800GTX

What other GPU's in the 400-650 range are recommended?
