Second one needs a previous windows. First and third are full standalone install versions. First if just an OEM version, no manual, no nothing, just a CD. Second and third are retail, which means theres a BOX. Also dont get Vista ungrade, stick with the XP.

is there a difference like with the amount of times you can reformat or amount of computers you can install it on with 1 and 3?

The retail version can only be installed on one computer. You can format and reinstall as many times as you want on that one computer. The OEM version can be installed on multiple computers, but you have to buy a license for each computer you install it on. That license will have the authorization code that you enter during installation. The license comes with a sticker with your code that you're supposed to put somewhere on your computer. Sometimes if you buy the OEM it will come with 1 license.
