Scandisk is a pretty good tool to use in these types of situations.

Grant, as I had predicted in my previous posting, the HDD is probably faulty. I found the utility I told you about - it's from Samsung - but I have tried it on various HDDs and it works just fine. If the errors are isolated to certain clusters, it may be possible to recover any personal data you want back. You will need a recovery software specifically to do so.

I am having the same problem as grantdixon only the partition was made with partition magic and it only uses 5% of the HDD. Is there a way I can delete that partition, I've tried using fdisk and it won't delete it. Thanks in advance.

Cant you just delete it in partition magic?
or just merge it into another partition
