I'm building a system but i am not quite sure on which harddrive to pick. I will be running two in raid 0 for a mid Core2 system.

HDD1: Western Digital Caviar [WD1600YS] 160GB 16MB Cache

HDD2: Hitachi Deskstar [T7K200] 200GB 8MB Cache

HDD3: Maxtor DiamondMax [21] 250GB 8MB Cache

HDD4: Seagate Barracuda [7200.10] 250GB 8MB Cache

Does the buffer size really make that much of a difference? I'm not too fussed about storage capabilty, i just want a HDD that will last a long time, running fast and smoothly.

Thanks

i like your first one you have listed i have 2 of those in raid 0 but the 250gb version and i love em.

cache your not going to notice really with your naked eye. but it does help with access times and read and writes if you do them alot.

From my experience, I would go with Seagate. This is based soaly on my experience with other vendors. Not only are they the most stable drive I have ever had, but they offer a 5 year warranty...

WD or seagate, I haven't heard much about Hitachi and almost everything I've heard about Maxtor has been bad news.

Id go with the Seagate Barracuda aswell, ive got the 300GB version and its really quiet, had it for about a year now and nothing wrong with it.
