antivirus software: free vs. paid

My school gave each student a "free" one year subscription to McAfee anti-virus. I know eventually it will run out and I will have to reinstall it, but would it be better to switch to a free program?

Would you recommend one of these or should I stick with McAfee?

Yes i would I would go with avg or avast
they both dont require you to have ActiveX enabled a well known security risk

as mcafee does

I use Antivir, it is fast,. light on resources, and I found it to detect more viruses than Norton did

I use avg anti virus. It barely uses any system resources and it catches some trojans that NAV doesn't.

Laff all software is free u just have to know where to get it..... dont waste your oney on software u can get it free anywhere

well im guess they just use our tuition money to boot the licensing fees. before that i just used norton that came with my motherboard. since this was a full year and it was handed to me, why not use it? i was just wondering which would be better to use. i have never directly paid for antivirus software.

Everyone ive ever met online or personal has used norton and never had any problems with it.. so i would go with norton although ive friend mcafee its not as good in my opinion but everyone has there different opinions about it.

I would recommend AVG Free Editon over anything.
Atleast test it out (as it is free anyway) before purchacing something else if you do. I promise you will be impressed
