windows in a loop

my moms laptop was in a loop. it would go to the screen where it would ask start up "Last known configuration" "Safe Mode" "Safe Mode with networking" "Normaly" (i cant remember exactly what it says). when ever i would select one it would start to load tehn just go into a loop. She has windows xp home. She brought it to bestbuy to the eek squad and after a week and a half they fixed it. they said it was spyware. when she got it back it worked fine but her desktop was different.

does anybody know what they did or know what to do if this happens?
if you do it would really save alot of money if it happens again

no, it has happened to me a bunch of times. you might just want to reinstall or repair install. does it come up with a blue screen? believe it or not, this is fairly common for windows computers. there is really no way to fix it or prevent it but maybe more ram would help. it probably won't happen too often though.

windows was prolly blue screening while loading. it was prolly set to automatically restart after system failure.

open control panel
open systems properties
click advanced tab
click settings under startup and recovery
uncheck automatically restart under system failure
click ok
click ok
click yes to reboot
