I have a Compaq Presario SR1110nx and i would like to upgrade the processor. It is currently a Celeron 2.53 ghz. What can/should i upgrade if I am even able to?

Upgrade to nothing. You won't get any perceptable increase in performance with a Celeron above that frequency. You would be better off overclocking the snot out of that CPU.

Here's some info on the motherboard your computer appears to have. Socket 478, appears to support P4 Northwood core up to 2.8ghz

Here it is, it's OEM so you'll have to buy a new socket 478 P4 fan for it, that's pretty cheap, though.

Not a very expensvie upgrade, it'll give you a good performance increase. What do you use your computer for exactly?
Also, a memory upgrade might be in order too, it looks like your pc came with only 256mb installed standard. The max is 1gb (2x512mb)

under the assumption that the computer is using stock cooling, it would be as simple as removing the stock heatsink & fan, then taking out the processor, and placing in the new one. On sodering required. You might need a new heat sink & fan though, I am don't know if the Celeron you have and that P4 use the same model or not. Thermal paste would be needed between the CPU and the heatsink.
