So I am finally going to build a decent desktop for myself and this is what I have come up with...

Case/mobo/ps/cpu 235$ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...5474&CatId=333

HD 45$ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...364868&CatId=8

CD/DVD drive 29$
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...28083&CatId=89

ram 70$

OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144151

Would I see any compatability issues?
Also I wasn't sure if the mobo had integrated graphics, could anyone tell?
Finally if I wanted to throw in an 8600 ultra in the future would it work out alright?

Anyhow If you think this blows I am on a 400 or so budget and if you have a better suggestion based on an ATX mobo I haave a case and 420watt PSU I can use... I like shuttle pc's but not enough to change my mind.

The barebones computer isn't for sale anymore. I don't recommend barebones anyways. They usually give you really crappy parts for a cheaper price, but building is much more fun and cheaper :D

For $10 more before rebates ($69.99), you can get a Western Digital 250GB. That's alot of storage, and a better name than Hitachi.

I don't know much about NEC burners, other than they're expensive, and rather slow and problematic with burning, from what I've heard.

Go with an LG, same speed, same price, and very quiet. I have two LG burners, quiet, reliable, and no coasters yet!

As far as the rest of the system, how do you feel about going AMD? They have an awesome price to performance ratio, an Athlon 3200 and up could beat a Pentium D. Just see the benchmarks...

EDIT:
Read 'em and weep: http://techreport.com/reviews/2001q1/p4-vs-athlon/index4.x

I was under the impression that PD was the generation of dual core after P4, and was having a hard time coming up with a good am2 build for cheap, my last build went wrong when I left the wrong things upgradeable...

Any suggestions as far as mobo/proc/ram on an ATX board?

My futile attempt:

mobo

same other internals....

also how bad are ECS motherboards? Fry's sells decent proccesors with ecs motherboards cheaper than the proccesor itself on occasion.
