Recovery Help!!!

hey,
I am try to recovery my IBM NetVista A20i computer with the recovery cd's that it came with but when it is in the process of doing so it will restart and and say

Invalid media type reading drive c
abort? Retry? Fail?

None of these do any thing.

what can i do about reinstalling Windows on it.

or is there some way to fix it??

My guess is, it looks like you need to reformat it now.

The disc isnt formatted!

None of these do any thing.

I have a hunch that for some reason the computer is having trouble recognizing the HDD, or perhaps the HDD itself may be going south on ya.

First i would try reseating all your IDE cables and making sure you have a good connection. Then run a diagnostics utility to rule out a malfunctioning HDD. You can download a free one from Samsung's website last time i checked.

i put another 40gig hdd in and it works, how can i find out what was wrong with the other one

Get a copy of fdisk.
Check to see if it has a file system.
If it says UNKNOWN then it isnt formatted. Format it.

If it does run scandisk to see if it shows any bad sectors in which case it maybe physical damage

i run scan disk and there are errors and it say some thing about another program is using this drive which there isn't so i think the hdd is dead

is there another program you can use that does the same job as scan disk

If there errors then good chances are its going downhill.
But youve lost me now...
Youre in DOS right?
And did you use FDISK?
Did you format the hard drive!?
