Color a CD drive?

I have a DVD-RW that I don't use anymore (doesn't write DVD's, so it's a CD burner and DVD reader) that I want to give to a friend who has the CD reader.

My question is; Can i make it black with a permanent marker, and would it look good and not destroy the product itself, or make it defective? It's about two years old, so I don't care about voiding the warranty or anything. He wants the thing black instead of beige, can i color it?

Coloring it will work but itll wear out and itll smell VERY bad. Look for a faceplace instead.

I imagine it would, but who smells a CD drive (well, I just bought a new CD rewritable and smelled it because it's new, but still).

Where would I find a faceplate for an LG burner? I guess online? I don't wanna choke up money for a new one.

Just use paint.

I guess if I screwed it up, I could always take off the faceplate, doesn't matter how to the tray looks...

just get some black spray paint or change the bezel . for my mum's pc i even put in a bezel that didn't fit on the cd burner just to match the case. it wasn't that hard to mod.
