No, that's not really true. Here's how I look at it. Either get the e6600, or the qx6700. Don't go between.

rainbow 6 vegas plays fine on my dual core. if you must get a quad core wait until april for the predicted price drop on the q6600. if you trust my opinion though the e6600 will have ample power for the next 2-3 years of gaming. sure it won't be top of the line but it will be able to handle games. my second rig with an Athlon XP 2500+ in it does pretty decently and it's quite a dated processor. that's not even taking into account overclocking.
