But then why would people cough up $50 for Zone Alarm when it crashes their computer? What's the point of buying it when MS can see your computer?

it will block everything except MS open back door.

this is where vista is going to have a problem. once hackers learn how to go into that back door, it's going to be bad for everybody

Exactly why I'm waiting until Vista has a service pack before using it as a main OS.

so much promise....................

does anyone still know where to find a downloadable copy of the Longhorn Beta? it would be cool to mess with. but i bet its very unstable.

In the past, early adopters of new Windows versions have had some small hurdles to overcome. Such hurdles may be software incompatibility, or lack of driver support. These sorts of things are almost expected with each new Windows launch. But what would you do if you bought Windows Vista and your product key didn't work. What if Microsoft had no solution and was unwilling to issue you a new key?

Many (if not all) users who took advantage of Microsoft's Vista Family Discount have been issued invalid installation keys and cannot install Windows Vista Home Premium. Microsoft confirms that the keys are indeed valid, but not for Windows Vista. The CSR I spoke with was unable to tell what the key was for, but it did appear to be a valid key, for something.

Microsoft says, This is a known issue and has been escalated to the program manager. When asked what could be done I was told, I can take your name and number and call you back when there is a solution. If that is not acceptable, I can cancel your order and issue you a refund. I was also told, There is no expected time period for a fix at this time.

Microsoft delivers Texas Hold'em Poker among other things for Vista Ultimate users

For those of you who have plunked down the extra cash for the version of Windows Vista that is at the top of the totem pole, there are a couple of new Vista Ultimate Extras available for download right now. Last night, right before the official launch of Vista, Microsoft pushed out Windows Texas Hold'em Poker and BitLocker and EFS Enhancements.

According to Paul Thurrott, Windows Texas Hold'em Poker requires a minimum Windows Experience Index of 1.0 to run and 2.0 to operate at optimum levels. Given that mostly enthusiasts will be gunning for Windows Vista Ultimate, this shouldn't be a problem at all.

The "Bitlocker and EFS Enhancements" are listed as follows:

* Windows BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool - configures your hard drive so that you can use the BitLocker Drive Encryption feature of Windows Vista.
* Secure Online Key Backup - stores a backup copy of your BitLocker recovery password and Encrypting File System (EFS) recovery certificates in your digital locker, a secure Microsoft website.
