Only Direct X10 cards for Vista Games?

I had debated for a long time about video cards in my new build. I finally decided on the 8800 GTS. The card is amazing. I am stepping up from a rather old system so that probably has something to do with it. But still, I can believe how good games look on it. I keep trying to get all the newest and power hungry games out there so I can turn the settings up to eye and enjoy the eye-candy.

Well, it looks like the case I want can only fit cards in that are 8" or less, and from what the representative at Cyber Power said, the 8000 series is longer than 8", so it won't fit. However, I asked him about the card that I want, the ATI X1950XTX, which he said was 5". So it looks like I'm going with the ATI, which I don't mind, as it is an awesome card. Plus, I'm going to see what ATI's next series is for DX10 and if they will be small enough for my case.

The 8800GTX is that long. The 8800GTS that everyone is suggesting is not. It will fit in any case.

The two cards you are looking at are in blue.

The 8800GTS is better in many of those benchmarks and is close behind in the ones its not. However the 8800GTS is compatible with DX10 which will be needed in the future. If you get the X1950XTX you will have to upgrade at some point down the line in order to play new games that are coming out. For now yes they are similar in performance but that will change when DX10 becomes the norm and the X1950XTX is obsolete.

Well, they go hand in hand. Sure I want good graphics, but I kinda want a cool looking case too. I don't want to have some crappy looking box that stores some of the best processors and graphics. But that's just me. I like what's on the inside and on the outside.

You are crazy, you get X1950XTX instead of 8800GTS

The 8800GTS has the ability to be twice as fast as X1950xtx in future games.

8800GTS beats X1950xtx in crossfire, and remember tomb raider Legend is not DX10 game. But this benchmark shows you how the 8800 series will perform in games that use new features.

Well, I can tell you I won't be playing Tomb Raider. I think I'm going to wait for the new ATI DX10 cards. From what I have read, Nvidia is meh.

well Nvidia soon will be. The ATI R600 comes out this March, or so n will out perform somewhat the 8800 GTX.

really u just need 2 ATI R600's n a 850w PSU at least if u want to support a future mobo with 2 PCI-E v2.0 (interconnect bit rate is doubling from 2.5GT/s to 5GT/s), which we probably wont see until Q2-4 2007, that is, if u like AMD, because Intel is coming out with some Q2 2007:

Anyways, all u need is 2 ATI R600's n a 850w PSU n ur good to go n it will last u for years without buying new graphics cards for years.
