These have been turned off for over a year, then out of nowhere, I started getting that dumb balloon that says "you're not safe - no firewall, blah blah"

I know all about going to the Security Center and unchecking the boxes to change notification methods. The problem is, it comes back every time I restart. I just got BitDefender, and I'm wondering if that might be it. Any suggestions though? I don't WANT to have updates :) and it's a perfectly legal copy of XP. Thanks guys
 
I know sometimes Spybot will fix the security alerts.

Why not use the Windows firewall? Uses less resources than the Bitdefender.
