Hi. I've been having this problem plague me for 6 months now and I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem. I'm running an AMD X2 4200+ with 2gb ram on WinXP with SP2.

Problem: Between 24 - 96 hours of being constantly on, at some random time my computer will take a dump. I will lose internet connectivity, programs refuse to load and give me the 0xc0000142 error message, if I'm playing a game while doing this and alt tab to windows, the desktop resizes to 640x480@60Hz. Other times sound will die, sometimes it doesn't.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check all your fans to see if there working properly. even on your GPU if you have one.

test your ram, run memtest see if it comes up with any errors, also if you have a fan on your video card add some thermal grease under it and check if your power supply has heavy amounts of dust inside if so, i DO NOT recommend cleaning it, rather buy yourself a new power supply and you should be good =D
