Hi. My computer doesn't have PS2 ports, it only has USB ports.

The mouse I want to use is a PS2 mouse. I have an adapter that plugs into my USB port and allows me to plug a PS2 mouse into the adapter to make it work.

I know the adapter works, as I have used it with other mice. I know the mouse works as well.

I am running Windows XP, 512 ram, and Dual-core Pentium 4 processors.

Thanks for any help that leads to me fixing this annoying problem.

Try other USB port, reboot. USB a pain, should have bought PC with PS/2 :D

If that doesn't work, try getting a new adapter. But first try on other PC.

First off, the mouse is a brand new Microsoft Intellimouse. (Not the optical version, the ball version)

Second off, I have some progress. If I plug the mouse into the adapter, plug the adapter in, then immeditely start moving the mouse, it will work. However, as soon as I stop moving the mouse, it won't work anymore until I unplug the adapter and then plug it back in. Very strange.

One time I was messing with it, I would click the mouse and roll the roller trying to get it to respond, and it pulled up the help and support center in windows xp. Random clickings and rollings with the mouse would make it do odd things, like highlight the tools bar at the top of the screen. Almost as if the computer thought the mouse was a keyboard.
