Only Direct X10 cards for Vista Games?

The Geforce 8800GTS DX10 video card is the same price as a ATI x1950xtx.

So now give me one good reason as to why you would want to purchase the x1950xtx when it underperforms in all dx9 games compared to the 8800gts.

I know the 8800 is pretty good, but a lot of people say it's a power hog, and it's freaking huge.

sure it is a power hog, relatively speaking compared to other components. however it's nothing like what it's made out to be in terms of power consumption.

if you can get the 8800GTS then go for it, it seems like you're thinking the DX10 cards can only be used in Vista.

I was thinking I wouldn't be able to play VISTA games with the ATI X1950XTX. But I guess you can. I might go with this card in the end, but I'm still debating.

the 8800gts is just a tiny bit bigger then the x1950 maybe a qaurter of an inch

ya the x1950xtx and the 8800gts are about the same size, you don't have to start worrying until you get the 8800gtx

I think I'm waiting until the 8600 Ultra release to get a DX10 card

Supreme commander and company of heroes are both getting directx10 patches. Directx 10 also isn't about extra features to make the game "pretty" its enhancements are for performance fully utilising unified shader architecture, so the should perform a whole lot more efficiently.

So if you need a card as in right now the 8800GTS is a good buy, otherwise you can wait till the R600 and 8600`s are out and see if there are any price cuts.
