In windows OS.

I just switched to AVG free in hopes of freeing up some cpu/memory.

But, norton antivirus is still running and I can't stop it.

i am logged off, have norton internet security disabled, antivirus auto-protect disabled, but it's still in the tray, and still taking up memory.

aside from removing it from my computer, what can I do?

not sure where to post..it doesn't particulary deal with actual virus removal, but the program itself.

thanks for your time.

I went into msconfig and looked at the startup files.

ccApp is there, which is a Symantec file..I'll turn that off and see how it goes.

Also, ctfmon is there. I've read that it is either a microsoft outlook program or a key logger...i've turned it off countless times, disabled countless times, and removed a few times, yet it's always there. any solutions?

Your welcome.

Good thing you got AVG running instead, but I would recommend Avast over AVG. Just my opinion.
