Well. My Dad got a computer from his work, it was replaced by a newer one. Im trying to re-format the hard drive. I have the mobo disk etc...

I get to the BIOS console.
And i type, "format c:/s"

It replys with...

"Warning: All data will be lost, Continue (Y/N)"

I press Y....

And i get the following error message in return:

"Call to int 0x21, 0x440d, failed error 0f"

Please help....im a complete n00b at computers.
But i am one kick *** gamer :p

The OS is

Windows 2000 Proffesional "Built on NT Tecnology"

Unfortunatly, i don't have the Windows disk... they didn't give it me

Any work arounds?

erm just wonder if you dont have a windows cd how were you planing to use the computer after formatting :p ,,,,, if you want to format download a windows 98 startup disc ,,,, also try www.ultimatebootcd.com ,, i think you can format with that

Oh yea.....forgot about that :p

I don't think ahead.

The computers whacked so i need to reformat

It completely freezes up 5-10 mins in.
Then you can do nothing at all.

Cept restart it :S

Any ideas to try and fix the problem rather than to reformat?

If this is a work PC, has he tried to have the IT department at work try to resolve the trouble? Wouldn't want him to get canned for doing something with company property that you should be, ya know?

If they want you to do it, then tell them you need the OS disc, and also the registration key.

Well the computer got replaced. By a new one.

It was cheaper to have a whole new one. Then to upgrade that one.
The fans and stuff were clogged. And basicly its a mess

It crashes after 5-10 mins. So they decided to get rid of it.
My Dad asked if he could have it. They kindly accepted. And now its ours.

No idea for the crash. Just locks up completely after 5-10 mins.
IT department didn't know what was wrong. So it was scrapped

Thats why i though, how about re-formatting. Might solve the prob...
And here i am
