64 bit processors

Hi
I came across a book which said that there were 64 bit processors for the pc out there which ran at 100 MHz, i thought the only 64 bit processors out there were the ones that ran at 3 GHz (Pentium) or 2.2 (? AMD) and above

I think MAC also got 64 bits cpu already!

They are probable extremely old proto types based on the original pentium chip

DEC's Alpha was the first 64-bit processor.. it was launched in 1992 at 200MHz. There are also several other lines of 64-bit processors which have been around for many years - MIPS, SPARC, IBM's POWER3/POWER4, and HP's PA-RISC family. However, all of these processors are targetted at the high-end server/workstation market, not desktop PC's.
