Movie Screen pictures

How do you take pictures of movies while they are play some file types work with just print screen (.bink) and some types dont work. I have tried different programs but are blank and all have done this:

theres a movie player out there called intervideo or somthing like that. You can pause the video and then u can go and take SS's. My friend is actully doing a project in computer graphics at school and its on the lord of the rings and he needs a SS in the movie. So i gave him the program and it worked.

Meh... i found out macromedia flash works just fine i can import the movie and go thrugh frame by frame.
