My knowledge on computers is limited as far as hardware goes so take that into consideration and feel free to suggest something different.

This is basically what I'm looking for and will need. I'm looking to spend at the most $1,500. If I can get everything for less, even better. The monitor, case, keyboard, and mouse have to be black. I'd like 2 GB of RAM and a HD around 300 GB. I need a CD/DVD Burner. I don't play games but would like a decent video card just in case. As long as the games will run even at low, and it will last 2-3 years. I mostly just listen to music but am not sure how much of an improvement you get with a sound card. Here is what I have so far.

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450Watt
eVGA Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
SAMSUNG 204BW Black 20" 6ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

I'm pretty sure on the CD/DVD Burner, Mouse, and Keyboard I've picked. I have no idea what motherboard to get.

you need a good motherboard, otherwise it will slow the overall performance of the other components.

Try a MB with 1066 FSB
You also need a 16x pci-express port

altho im not sure if conroe are supported.

As for the sound card, just as a graphic card takes all the video processing off the main cpu, the sound card handles all the sound so the cpu doesnt have to, besides, good expensive ones have diferent inouts and even lcds displays so you can plug your guitar and start recording.

The normal user might not notice any diference, but you might notice it on games with many sounds playing at the same time.

Sound samplerate also increases (if you ever downloaded the same mp3 song at 56kbps and then at 128kbps you will know what im talking about) so given a good set of speakers, you will notice a much better sound.

Thank you, Nukem. Here's what I've come up with.

Is it all compatible? Also, I have a question about shipping costs that I couldn't find looking through the help section. Is the 3-Day shipping under the price the only option or are there any others?

the E6400 is a poor choice due to the GHZ. your can either buy the 6600 and get the 4MB L2 cache, or buy the E6300 with the 2MB L2 cache and overclock it slightly to the E6400 specs and save money. The L2 cache makes all the difference in the chip... everything else works good and will be a good build, but I'm sorry if I sound snippy... but that chip you picked is a waste of money IMO...

So you're saying it isn't worth it because the GHz is the only difference? I don't know a thing about overclocking. Would you say the 6600 is worth how much more it costs in terms of performance and longevity? I just want whichever is on the same level as the rest of the parts.

Nevermind, I figured out the shipping. I guess that's all. Though, if anyone else has a recommendation feel free to tell me. I won't be ordering until this weekend.
