I'm going to be building a new PC soon and i'm wondering what power rating my PSU will need to be to supply this system well.

Core 2 Duo X6800
ASUS P5N32 SLI NForce 680i
XFX 8800GTX Overclocked
2GB G.Skill PC6400 DDR2
Raptor 10,000RPM 74GB HDD
160GB Seagate HDD
Combo CD/DVD etc Drive (Pioneer)
Antec Nine-Hundred Case

I'm willing to spend from about 200 - 400$AUD (Which is about 315$USD) If it is really needed. If i MUST spend more than that i won't mind.

is it nessesary to go up to 850W? Also i'm planning on going SLi later so will it support it? i heard something about needing lots of rails or something with 8800GTX

What you need to get is a power supply by: PC Power & Cooling

It is BY FAR the best choice for your price range as well as your system.

I guarantee(and so will a lot of people on this forum) that it is the best choice. Good luck with your system and feel free to ask more questions.

are there more mainstream alternatives? because my store doesen't seem to stock them and i don't wanna pay tons of postage etc for overseas stuff

I would look at 2 brands in that case.

Enermax and Antec
I would not get any less than 550watts for what you are doing

Enermax
Antec
Seasonic
etagan
Silverstone
mushkin
Corsair
Fortron (FSP)
PC Power and Cooling

Take your Pick, theres gotta be one or more from where you buy

Why don't you just get this?

(I just want to see what kind of reaction I get. :p )

But ofcourse you can't get that because Newegg doesn't ship to Australia. Where are you buying from? Link the website, and I'll find a good one.
