I am going to be setting up a hardware RAID tomorrow, but I am un sure what to expect. Is it as straight forward as software? Anyone done it here?

It will either be 1, 5 or 10 (10 is 0+1?)

Thanks for the help, Trif.

Make sure you put the drivers on a floppy, and hit F6 before you install Windows so you can load the drivers for the RAID.

Since I haven't set one up myself, that's all the help I have to offer.

Well, that was easy. gave the PC a dust down and check that everything was plugged in. Turned it on - still remembered the date and time was a bit out. Ctrl+m to get into the controller cards BIOS. Get as many SCSI hard drives as I can (raided old servers - excuse the pun) Ended up with 2x in RAID 1 and 5x in RAID 5 36GB 10krpm hdd. Install server 2003 (and format them there instead of the control card's BIOS)

I had a play with server 2003 too, and quite like the idea of having it at my home instead of my intended idea of a Linux NAS file server.

(The server weighed in more than I did!)
