Help???

Hey guys, need some help here again. I have major problems with OS WIN 98. Do any of these sound familiar:
active desktop icons not responding
icons incative due to 'illegal op, must close'
not accessible: control panel, recycle bin ,my computer, my documents, and most C drive components
Is this something new , a new annoyance of some kind?
I hope to get some answers if this is a virus of some sort. If this is a corrupt file, then i'l deal with that with a real tech..... thanks again

Run a free online virus scan, it can be found at http://housecall.antivirus.com

Run adaware and spybot, be sure to have the latest updates for both programs.

I've seen virus do the same thing, but if your scan comes up clean then you could have bad sectors on your HDD.

what, we're not real techs, i feel like such a wannabe now and to think i thought i was cool and helping ppl with their computer like a real tech.
