Hello,

I have just tried to do an upgrade of my HDD and my PC won't detect it...I messed around with the jumpers for a bit and then I did a bit of guess work in the bios but now I think my problem is that my bios settings are wrong...I am using a Dell Dimension 8100 and there doesn't seem to be any key for restoring the bios to the default setting...F2 bring me into the bios setup but there is nothing in there for resetting it to the default. Anyone any suggestions?

Any help much appreciated,

Genieee

Unplug your computer, open up the side panel, and remove the CMOS battery. It is a small flat watch type battery, and should be in the front bottom corner of your motherboard. Leave it out for a few seconds (count to thirty), then pop it back in.

Make it work. You can also use the jumper but that's more complex. Just do what he said, I've had to do it many times. Nothing 'bad' might answer your question. xD

Working again:)

Great...everything is back and working after resetting the BIOS...thanks so much!

to use your hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted.

go to start -> run
type "diskmgmt.msc" (without quotes) and press enter.

you'll be able to format and partition your new drive from there.
