would a 7800 run bf2142 on max settings?
no not without being choppy i wouldnt have thought.

For Battlefield 2142 to run smoothly at high settings you need 2GB's of ram

It constantly uses 1 gig of ram when i check on taskmanger! But with 2 GB's of ram, a 7950GT and my x2 4200 i can run this game maxed out at 1280x1024 on my 17" moniter, it looks fab :D

Lucky You ! .... Lucky me aswell as it sounds similar to my hopefull pc.

What FPS are you getting there ?....And im getting a E6300 not X2 4200. So mine will be a TAD faster. about 1 fps lol.

K M A N, I'm assuming those were british pounds? In that case your budget ranges from $830 to $1060, US$. That's something to work with.

Alright, here's my first suggestion. I'm basing this on your earlier build.

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6300 - $193.00
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 Intel G965 Express - $134.99
Memory: G.SKILL 2 x 1GB DDR2-800 Dual Channel Kit - $209.99
Video Card: eVGA GeForce 7900GS 256MB KO - $175.99 ($155.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 250GB 16MB SATA 3.0Gb/s - $74.99
Optical Drive: LG Black 18X Super-Multi DVD Burner - $29.99
PSU: Antec True Power Trio 550W - $94.99 ($79.99 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate)
Case: XION II Black ATX Mid Tower - $69.99 ($49.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate)

Total: $1,018.93 (£528.07), with $35 total rebates, not including the case rebate.

You're still missing a monitor (maybe we'll have to rework the build a bit to make it fit the budget), and a keyboard & mouse. Also, I couldn't find the case you suggested on Newegg so I just put a random case, but chose whatever you like :).

By the way, I did the build on Newegg, but I'm not sure you can order from them. If that's the case, what computer e-tailer do you prefer?

22% is much more expensive for overclocking? PC2-5300 is like buying non-overclocking memory. The most you'll get out of a E6300 with that is 2.33Ghz.

Not sure i havent checked FPS, but its smooth and not laggy at all.

To answer the above post, no he wont be able to order off that site.
Use either, SCAN or EBUYER, both great uk sites and can get anything to do with computers on there :D

Erm Thanks for that alot.

Erm yes it is £'s and by the sound of it you wont get all of that over here for the same price.

If you could do a build for me off SCAN.CO.UK that would be great.

I want The Akasa ZEN Black case (Its under zEnthusiast on cases)

I dont need a mouse monitor or keyboard by the way.

Thanks for your help

Roger that. I thought so about the monitor, keyboard & mouse (these parts don't really get old).

Here you go. All prices already include VAT.

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6300 - £123.29
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel P965 Express - £75.20
Memory: Corsair XMS2 2 x 1GB DDR2-667 Dual Channel Kit - £154.56
Video Card: XFX GeForce 7900GS 256MB - £104.33
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 250GB 16MB SATA 3.0Gb/s - £55.17
Optical Drive: LG 18x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW/RAM Black - £20.67
PSU: 530W HiperPower Type-R Modular Black - £49.35
Case: Akasa Zen Black Silent Cool ATX - £29.95

Total: £612.52, VAT included.

That's over budget, meaning we'll have to tweak the build a little bit. What do you think so far?

Thats great, I like the ram and CPU. Maybe a cheaper Mobo, Hard drive amd PSU if uou can as i only need 160GB Hard Disk.

I dont need corsair, theres some exilir 1Gb ram for 60 quid 2 of them would be fine.

Yes my Maximum budeget is 550.

Thanks Alot

I was running the BF2142 demo on my computer and I played it maxed out with no problems, and I run on 1GB of RAM.

But yea, you should get at least 667 or 800 RAM (800 if you want to overclock, which would be nice since it's a 6300). Not sure about pricing in the UK, but you could try getting a 7950GT and get 1GB instead, then it wouldn't be that hard to get another stick of 1GB down the road.
