Hey gang,

I'm getting the dreaded blue screen more frequently of late and I am unsure as to what may be the cause. One clue is that the cpu seems to lag (i.e. hourglass icon and freezing) moments before the BSOD appears. I'm also getting varying messages from the blue screen.

I ran a memory test for 24 hours that came back OK. My next guess is the hard drive, which is still under warranty from Western Digital. Perhaps someone out there has another idea. Could it be the power supply? Mobo?

Specs are as follows:

AMD XP-2500 Barton
Chaintech KT-600 Mobo
WD 80GB Hard drive
512 MB Mushkin Ram
Geforce FX-5200
400 W Power Supply - came with case.

Rig is about three years old.

your pc is probably infected, then again it could be the HD.
you also have just said the equivalent of calling a Doctor on the phone and saying " I am sick, what do you think is wrong?":D

The BSOD has an error code that can be most helpfull in determning what is wrong with your pc, if you post the error code we will have a look, if the error code just flashes by
and the pc reboots
do this
click start
then run
then type
sysdm.cpl
hit enter
click advanced tab
then down at the bottom
click settings for start up recovery
uncheck automatically reboot

yes do get us the error code but also look in the eventviewer for obvious system/application errors.

also could you post up a minidump file
