Cannot run windows in safe mode

Hi there

I am trying to restart my computer in safe mode ( i have windows xp) so that i can wipe the nasty AntiVermins off of it. But i cannot do it. When i try restart, no matter how many times i hit F8 it does not go to a different menu, and there is no magical Beep before the windows sign comes up, that i'm supposed to wait for before hitting F8 either. Also I cannot seem to get to the part where i can choose a different user to log into the computer. Sorry for the ramble but can anyone help?

When you boot your PC right after the BIOS screen goes away start hitting F8. It should come up then.

Hi there

I have tried tapping the F8 key in every ryhtem/combonation possible, even going as far as to start right from the moment the computer turns itself off, straight through to the moment desktop loads up fully and nothing happens unfortunately.
