Hello all,

Bear with me here :>) I have an older P4/1.7Ghz Cpu in a Compaq computer. I can't afford to buy a new computer, but I want to upgrade to a slightly faster processor for a little but of a boost. I believe that the max my computer supports is a P4/2.0Ghz processor. Looking around ebay, I can get a 2.0Ghz processor for about 30-40 bucks.

The P4/2.0Ghz processors I have seen on ebay all have a core CPU voltage of 1.5 Volts. I pulled the fan/heat-sink off my current P4/1.7Ghz CPU and it says the core voltage is 1.75 Volts.

Would there be any problems with using a 1.5V processor in place of the current 1.75V processor?

The 2.0Ghz processors I have looked at all have 512K L2cache. So, even though it's a small upgrade, I think that I would notice a slight performance improvement with the extra 300Mhz and extra 256KB L2 cache.

Hey, for 30 bucks I think it's worth it...

Thanks.
