PLease help on this build

Hi there. I am building a system for $2500 or less New Zealand funds. I will list the components I am looking at and would love some input as I am noobish about this and want the best I can get for my limited budget. The websites listed are NZ sites since I can't seem to get much from the states without paying huge prices with our $.67 exchange rate and other shipping costs etc.

That looks like a pretty good build to me. I wish evga retailed in New Zealand, since you could upgrade that graphics card to a mid range dx10 early next yr (with their step-up program).

The graphics card is still a good mid range gpu but its going to quickly fall into the low range graphics cards when next year games come out supporting dx10. I would suggest saving up some money after this build and buying a mid range dx10 card next year. Nvidia is supposed to release their mid range dx10 cards q1 next year (i think i saw a January release date somewhere but i can't find it).

Other then that, you have a sweet build.

Just an update.. but really wanting some input. I have decided to go with these changes:

E6600 intead of the E6300
Leadtek EN7900GS 256bit 256MB DDR3 instead of the 7600GS
Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2 7200 16MB cache HDD instead of the WD 250GB 7200 SATA2 16MB Cache
The case is nothing too flash but I don't know if I need to worry about it much.
I went with the Gigabyte S3 instead of the DS3 being that I won't be using SLI anytime soon. I am not that extreme.
Asus 1608P3S DVD-RW Black Dual Layer 16X DVD+/-R DVD (Is this DVD Writer any good? Someone told me that they don't matter much really. I don't know)

So what do you think about the changes?

A 7900gs is a great graphics card. The e6600 is awesome but a e6300 would still be plenty fast and it is very overclockable even on stock cooling if you need to save money.

You can't sli with the ds3 anyways. The s3 is a budget board of a budget board. I havn't seen too many ppl with them, but i would stick with the ds3 if you can.

Lite-on makes pretty good dvd writers but im sure asus is fine.

So you would maybe recommend going with the DS3 and the E6300 and it would be fast-as? I figure if I am spending 2000+ I may want to just get the best I can. I can do the 7900GS with the E6300 and the DS3 mobo and save about 100-200 bucks. Would that be a good config?

That would be a good build. If you overclock the e6300 a little, it can beat a fx-62 (amd's best processor). You can overclock it on stock to the e6600 ghz easy. You should be able to get it to 3.0ghz on stock but after that, you probably need an aftermarktet hsf like the zalman 9500 or sycthe ninja. So basically your paying for the extra cache. If you can though, get a e6400. It overclocks easier since it has a higher multiplier.

I can get the E6400 and save about $180 and spend the extra on the mobo. You don't think I will notice or lose out the extra cache on the 6600? I have never used a dual-core so I don't know how fast it will be but am very excited to see. Currently I am on a Pentium4 3.06 519 (P) 3.06 GHz 533 Front side bus Socket 775. I am picking everything uip this coming Wednesday.

You will see A LOT of improvement with the e6400. The extra cache is a prefrence. I don't know what you do on your computer, so i don't know if the extra cache would make all that much differnce for you.

Some ppl on here say save the money with a e63/400 and get a better graphics card. Some ppl say get a better cpu/ram and ok graphics card. I did the latter hoping to upgrade to a dx10 card next year.
