Alright... I have a problem.... Should I stay or should I go?

AM2 upgrade vs S939 CPU upgrade vs C2D upgrade...

I want to enter into dual core, seeing as how I am probably the only one on this earth capable to go dual core (money wise/tech wise) yet has remained in the rather phased out single core world..

So plan of attack is an AM2 Motherboard, CPU, and Ram upgrade..

or

C2D Motherboard, CPU, and Ram

or

S939 CPU and Ram upgrade

?

Descisions...

AM2 - 661 US Dollars

Also is a 520 Watt Modular PSU with a single 12v rail enough to support any of these new combos?

Too many options..

if you have the money and inclination go c2d.
if you want to save the trouble and money of replacing the mobo, that opty looks real nice, although i would probably go with a 165 and overclock it, as it will easily reach/surpass the 180 speed on stock cooling.
there really is no reason to go from 939 to am2 when the 6600 outperforms the am2 cpu's.
unless, of course, you trust amd and want to stick with them (which is why i did).

I would not even compare the e6600 to a x2 4800. If you have the money you could even get a e6300 and it would eat that opty or 4800 alive.

6600, no doubt.
though "eating alive" is a littletoo much for the 6300 (we've had this discussion b4 lance lol).
thats a pretty expensive upgrade, tho.

I suggest you go with a 680i chipset if you go conroe. The nforce4 was built for the amd 939 boards.

Can you push for the evga 680i. Although, are you planing to sli later? If not then a asus p5b-deluxe would be good.

That psu will be able to power any of the three systems your deciding between, no problem.

Don't go am2 though, you might as well just stick with a 939 dual-core, but don't get more ram just stick with the ram you have now and use the money to get a dx10 card latter, if you decide to go the 939 route.

ya... don't go with AM2, its no good....

well... its good, but not when its competition is just as much and spanks them.....

and darkop... what about full metal panic... FUMOFU... i wanna see bonta-kun.. lol

If you want to sli with the c2d though i still suggest getting a 680i board over older chipsets that were temporally being used to give the c2d sli before the 680i boards. Unless thats what your planning to get.

I have to say rock lee > shikamaru

Shikamaru is smart and all but i like lee's spring time of youth ;).
